Birth Records

The Faribault County Recorder is able to process requests for Certified Copies of Birth for the entire State of Minnesota for any birth occurring from 1935 to the present in the State of Minnesota.   For those born before 1935 you will need to contact the county of your birth.  Faribault County birth records start in 1870. 

To obtain a Certified Copy of Birth you will need to complete a Tangible Interest form.  You may download the Tangible Interest form from the Minnesota State Department of Health link or we can mail or fax the Tangible Interest form to you. 

The Tangible Interest form is needed for any request of a Certified Copy of Birth. This form must be completed and signed before a notary public.  The Tangible Interest form is NOT needed for any request of an Uncertified Copy of Birth.

Speedy Mail Service
Upon receipt of the Tangible Interest form properly completed and notarized with the appropriate fee, the Faribault County Recorder’s office will process all mail requests the same day.   You should be aware that if you mail your request to the Minnesota Department of Health your request may take several weeks to process.

Speedy Counter Service
Customers are also able to stop at the Faribault County Recorder’s Office to apply for a Certified Copy of Birth and walk out with the record in a matter of minutes.  Bring along your picture ID or your current Drivers License.  You should be aware that the Minnesota Department of Health does not provide customer counter service.
